United Methodist Women

March 8th, 2015 by Kali Lewis

It’s official! With a unanimous vote, it was decided to combine our two United Methodist Women’s circles into one general meeting each month. From now on, our UMW Unit will meet the third Tuesday of the month, usually at a members home: the time and place to be announced. We hope that this change will encourage more women to join us. The program at the next meeting will be a presentation by Janet Helmbold on her recent European experience, which traced the journeys of the Apostle Paul.

There is also another UMW change—we have new co-chairpersons for the Sunshine Committee. Norma Johnson and Gene Hastings have agreed to take the position after Sharon Vanderville stepped down. Thanks Sharon for your many years of service bringing “sunshine” to many in our congregation.

Plans are underway for our annual Reflection Breakfast. This year, the event will take place Saturday, March 28 at 9 am. Brenda Fleck will be the speaker. Traditionally, the event is held the day before Palm Sunday, and is geared to help us prepare spiritually for Easter. Mark this date on your calendar now and plan to attend with your friends. This event is open to the community and usually attended by several ladies from area churches as well as our own members.

Our regular activities continue as well: The monthly Hymn Sing is held the first Monday of each month at 10 am at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility. All are welcome to join us! And don’t forget the UMW Reading Program: See Mary Prater for details on this.

Looking ahead, the annual Marquette District Spiritual Growth Retreat will be held Friday evening and Saturday morning on May 1 and 2 at the Comfort Inn right here in Manistique. Our own Janet Helmbold will be the program leader, and our UMW members will present the program “The Other 12 Disciples.” We should be getting more information and registration forms soon.

Sincerely, Carol Weinert
